Dance Waves'11-Circus is Coming to Town

Mala CHERGA tries to reach as wide a cross-section of the community as possible, including those people who normally have no access or limited access to dance.  Education is an integral part of company’s work, both within the formal education sector (schools, colleges, adult education) and the larger community (after school clubs, art, community and day centres).  Our education projects and workshops are designed for particular age or interest groups (women, children in primary schools, children in secondary schools, people with physical and learning disabilities, etc.), including more specific projects, for example developing and supporting the National Curriculum.

The emphasis of our education work is based on creativity, giving every participant an opportunity to explore and experiment with his/her own creativity whilst giving the necessary support and technical skills to accomplish this.  We provide a safe and encouraging environment for each participant to learn and develop their knowledge and experience of the performing arts, gain new skills and further develop their physical, communication and creative thinking skills.

Workshops and Projects

Our workshops and projects are designed to:
- Develop participants’ health, fitness and wellbeing through physical exercise
- Encourage participants to use their initiative and inventiveness (problem solving and creative
thinking)
- Develop participants’ sense of self, their identity and value and that of their peers through
developing their confidence in their own abilities

- Cultivate co-operation and collaboration by encouraging sensitivity to the needs and feelings  of others and becoming  more skilful in communicating and sharing experiences with other people (listening, working in groups and alone, making decisions)
-  Developing cross cultural understanding, all of which we believe makes a positive difference in the lives of the participants and their
families.
- Encourage and promote kinaesthetic and visual learning and communication
- Provide new opportunities for learning and career development
